New Mexico: Pnuemonia shots recommended, cases rise

New Mexico has experienced 89 flu & pneumonia-related deaths this season:

The New Mexico Department of Health reports two children have died from the flu in New Mexico over the past month, bringing to 89 the number of flu- and pneumonia-related deaths in the state this season.
Health officials say a 2-year-old girl from McKinley County and 15-year-old boy from Torrance County have died from influenza-related illnesses. That compares to just one flu-related pediatric death last season.  Continued...

They are now recommending the pneumococcal vaccine.  

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - With the number of pneumonia cases on the rise in New Mexico, doctors and pharmacists recommend that people should get a pneumonia shot.  So far, 78 people have died from pneumonia here in the state within the last few months.
It's clinical term is pneumococcal conjugate vaccine or PCV-13. It's been out for a while and it's recommended for many different age groups.
